Hot and cold shower taps

Healthy skin tip #8: Take cooler showers

Who doesn't love a long, luxurious, relaxing hot shower?

Surprise - your face doesn't!

Long, hot showers strip your skin of its protective oils. That makes your skin start to dry out!

It's true – standing in hot water too long is drying, not hydrating.

And when your skin is dry, it's more easily damaged.

Doctors confirm: Shorter, cooler showers help protect skin

As always, we look to reputable sources and medical professionals to confirm or clarify any skincare advice, so: Here's Dr. Emily McKenzie advising shorter, cooler showers in an audio interview with a university healthcare system, and this Forbes article quotes similar input from Dr. Reshmi Kapoor.

One possibly helpful tactic is making face-washing separate from your shower time, giving your more delicate facial skin the TLC it deserves.

If your skin is typically dry, doctors also note you'll want to care for it with gentle cleansing (no harsh benzoyl peroxide or irritating salicylic acid, please), plus ingredients to hydrate deeply - COR includes hyaluronic acid, a mild humectant -  and help rebuild your protective layer - Jojoba and avocado oils, plus other ingredients in COR.

As for those shorter showers - you might miss those few moments of hot-shower Zen, but softer, healthier skin will give you plenty of peace of mind!
